Subject: Spouse Sponsorship--HELP!!
  Hi Everyone!

I´m hoping someone can give me some solid advice on my situation...

I´m moving to Canada from June-August...In that time I will be marrying my partner who intends on sponsoring me to immigrate. I´m coming back to the U.S. in August only because I have a wedding to attend. I will only be back in the U.S. for a few days before I would like to return back to Canada to be with my partner, after the wedding. I was planning on filing as an in-class spousal sponsorship packet after I return back to Canada. One of my questions is will they not let me back into Canada when I return in August because I was only gone back home to the U.S. for a few days? Also if we do In-class, am I allowed to go home for holidays while the app is being processed or must I stay in Canada?

Any advise would be much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!!!

are you referring to while my app is being processed when I turn it in in August? Or I you referring to when I leave in Aug and come back a few days later to Canada?

I´m guessing you are just talking about going back to the U.S. for Holidays while my app is being processed???

I would think it would be ok to leave in August and come back a few days later before I turn in the app, right??

On what basis are you going to Canada in the first place? Are you simply going there as a visitor or do you have some sort of other visa for Canada that allows you to stay more than 90 days? Are you a US citizen?

I am a US citizen. I am going there in June to marry my partner and be with her until August when I have to come home for a few days for a wedding. I would be going as just a visitor in June.

I think (not positive about that) that as a visitor you can only stay there for 90 days at a time. However, since you are American, they might not even keep track of that and you can go in and out as you please. But I would verify that with someone who has the facts.

Hi Amy,

I am an American Citizen as well. I have been in Canada for about a year now as a visitor. I don´t think you would have a problem with leaving and re-entering Canada in August. I do that quite often actually and have never had a problem. When I came here last May, I stayed until July and then in July went back to the U.S. In August I came back to Canada and asked to stay for 6 months, and they gave me a visitor record paper. I left before the 6 months was up just for a week and then returned to Canada with no problems at all. I asked when I returned to be able to stay for another 6 months and then they told me that I should apply for immigration before I leave and come back again because by that time, I have been in Canada for a year. Anyway, what I´m trying to say, is that there should be no problem at all as long as you are honest with the immigration officers. Hope I was of some assistance.

P.S. You do not need a visa to stay more than 90 days in Canada. As an American you can stay up to 6 months just as a visitor.
