Hi guys,
I did medicals in March 06 for April 05 AOR. I am an int. student in Canada. Do you guys advice me to apply for the work permit which would enable me work off-campus or wait for the PPR inorder to be able to work this summer?
It seems that PPR after the medicals takes at least three months. In that case, I have to wait at least one more month. If I apply for teh work permit, it takes at least six weeks.

The 3-month timeline after your medicals isn´t a standard waiting time. I´ve seen people that have waited anywhere from 2 months to 1 year after their medical exams to get their PPR. That is, people who applied to Buffalo or had their files transferred to another consulate in the US. Right now, NY seems to be the fastest in giving out the PPRs after your meds are done. LA has started to give out some PPRs too. There have been none out of Detroit as far as I know, but someone posted a message saying that the immigration officer at Detroit said that it would take at least months after medicals are done for them to send a PPR.
I would suggest that you apply for your off-campus work permit if you really need to work off campus immediately, because there is no guarantee that you will get your PPR before September. I can also say this because my AOR is March 2005 and there are a lot of people with March 2005 AOR that haven´t even received their IAs yet.

I am in a similar situatia as you are - my AOR date is March05 and we also did our medicals in March06. I´ve decided not to wait and I am applying right now for off-campus work permit.
