Anyone notice the recent strength of the Canadian Dollar? For those of us who had planned to use our hard earned foreign currency life savings to start a new life in Canada, this may smart a bit. From my USD perspective and plans - ouch! There´s talk of CDN$ reaching "par" with US$ soon.

It´s all apparently the result of Canada´a strength in commodities (oil, metals, uranium, coal, mining, etc.) in the current climate of a worldwide energy shortage.

you suppose to make Canadian dollar while you live in Canada. To me, it´s nice, everything is cheaper in grocery store, especially like California orange, Chapters, GAP!

Our current administration has been a disaster in every way, including the record deficits which is certainly a major factor in the slashing of the dollar´s value on the world market. Hopefully the turnover of the House (and Senate) and the election of a new administration will result in some fiscal sanity and a more healthy dollar. Of course there are those Americans who will continue to vote for Republicans even as the noose tightens around their necks and more and more of them have been reduced to begging for alms in the streets. But the rich are happy as are the religious right, who believe the end is coming anyway, so bring on more disastrous wars paid for by cash borrowed from China. We may yet be emmigrating to Canada hauling multiple sacks of almost worthless Americano currency while the thugs in the administration and their corporate sponsors protect their wealth with gold and foreign currency.

Well said, Bob. The weakness of the US dollar is no doubt largely due to insane deficit spending on an insane war, as well as tax giveaways to the American wealthy elite. Also America´s unwillingness to conserve energy (car crazy culture) contributes to massive foreign spending on oil and the need for empire building overseas to safegurad those oil reserves.

hey guys!! be aware there are much more retail competition in U.S than Canada, from car dealers to cell phone, department store.

you can save quite amount of money by shopping clothes, computers, cell phone in U.S

telecommunication market in Canada has absolutely no competition like U.S.
Shaw and Rogers cut Canada into two east and west.
