Subject: Landing at a place other than port of entry.

I was wondering if it´s possible to do the "landing" somewhere other than the Port of Entry through which I enter Canada.

I´m from Mexico I will need to get a nonstop flight to Toronto ´cause I don´t have a visa to do a stopover in the States. But im planning on doing my landing in Winnipeg, which is where my wife lives (she´s sponsoring me) She is planning on coming down to meet me at Toronto and take a bus from there or maybe even the train to do some sigthseeing on the way to Winnipeg.

Now, is this possible? will the immigration officers at the Toronto int. airport let me through if I tell them I´m doing my landing in Winnipeg?
As a sponsored person, do I need to show proof of funds? o what documentation might they ask me for? other than of course the visa.

Thank you so much.

Toronto is a port of entry and entry place in Canada and you can enter at any International airpot or road crossing centre.

What do you think "landing" means.

You do the landing procedure in your first port of entry as soon as yuou arrive in Canada.

If everything is in order you will be admitted into Canada as a Permanent Resident.

You CAN´T ask to do the landing somewhere else, IT HAS TO BE DONE IN YOUR FIRST CANADIAN PORT OF ENTRY.

Once you land in Toronto you may fly, walk or run to Manitoba if you wish.

You can do your landing procedure almost everywhere in Canada (except Quebec), regardless where you sponsor lives.

Thanks a lot Anonymous. You made it all clear now. I thought I could do the "landing" paperwork at Winnipeg, arriving at Toronto first.

Muchas Gracias.
