Now for funds the requiremnt is $10,168 CD but its written on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/qual-4.html that if you bring more than $10,000 you will be fined if you dont tell officer. If i tell officer do I need to pay any duty?

Here are some colleceted from other places and pasted for you. These are not my experience.colleceted to give you idea.
------------------------------------------------------Before entering Canada
I prepared two lists of my personal and household items, value in Canadian dollars.

(1) List of Goods accompanied
(2) List of Goods To Follow

I used spreadsheet to create these lists. Than I took photographs of Gold jewellery, together with the value of each items in CAD on photo (using Photoshop).

Than I used Adobe acrobat professional to add all the items in B4 form and B4e. I was not brining any funds with me but rather bring them at later using bank transfer.

I booked my flights, prepared my luggage and I was ready to enter Canada.

On the day of Arrival

The check-in and security check from Frankfurt airport was pretty easy and I was able to reach departure gate without any questions asked. At the departure gate I was asked if I am immigrating to Canada, than I was asked to show my landing papers.

After the formality of passports and papers check, I was allowed to board the flight.

Entering Canada

I arrived at the Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ), terminal 1 around 15.25 EST. As we getting out of plane, after few distance, the immigration Canada was checking people´s passports. I guess this was to stop anyone illegal escaping into the terminal building. I took us around 20 min to reach from the flight to the terminal building via shuttle bus.

After we enter the new terminal building, the CBSA desks were not far from the where buses dropped us. I MWAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH NEW BUILDING AND PASSENGER COMFORT CONSIDERATION IN PLANNING OF BUILDING.

Anyways, I gave the officer at the desk my passports and my "Customs Declaration Card". I told him that I am immigrating today. He checked my landing papers and allowed me go to immigration desk, which was section, not far from desks.

In the immigration section, there were many desks and one of immigration officer called me, I gave her my passports and my papers. She asked my to show proof of funds. I showed the proof and than she start completing the forms. I was asked to initial and sign on the landing papers. The same process was repeated for my son and wife.

After immigration, we passed a desk where a lady was giving free leaflets and information packs for newcomers.

I than went to level down in baggage claim hall, where we picked up our luggage and other stuff.

Than we proceeded to the exit , where our customs declaration was checked and we were instructed to go to CBSA hall where officer will process our case. We waited for 5 mins and than we were called by one the CBSA officer. I showed him all the filled forms and my passports. He was very impressed that I have already filled all the forms and it saved his time. Than he asked me for Grand total of all the goods, which forgot to include. He was kind enough to do it on his computer and informed what he think is TOTAL. I agreed to the amount and he printed the document and other papers works. He also asked me to SIGN B4 forms.

After the all the formalities, I was given a document with list of my items attached. I than came out of the baggage hall where our family was waiting.

Overall, all the staff at the airport were polite and courteous and helpful. I took me around 1 hr 45 min from landing to the exit from baggage hall.

This past weekend, we completed our landing formalities for Canadian PR. Here?s a detailed description of how that experience was.

We live in Portland Maine and decided that instead of crossing the border into New Brunswick (which is about 6 hours drive), we will cross the border at the Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls. So we flew down to Buffalo and then rented a car from Enterprise to drive across the bridge. Enterprise was pretty cool about the whole process and we made sure that the rental agreement stated permission to drive into Ontario. With all the documents ready, copied and sorted into separate files, one for myself and the other for my wife, we drove to Niagara Falls. On the NY side, we reached the toll booth and asked the lady there if we needed an exit stamp to leave the US. She said that she did not know and that we would have to go to the Immigration office next to the toll booth. So we backed out of the toll booth (luckily there were no other cars coming in) and drove to the immigration office. The officer there checked our passports and our I-94s and said we did not need an exit stamp. We then drove back, paid the toll (USD 2.50 / CAD 3.50) and crossed the bridge.

We were so nervous that we both did not look across the bridge at the Falls!! But when we reached the Canadian side, the immigration officer at the booth asked us why we were coming to Canada, how long we planned to stay there and when we were planning to return to US. She then gave us a yellow slip and asked us to pull up into the parking lot of the immigration office. Once we parked our car there, we walked inside the office. It was 4:30 PM. On entering the office, we were directed to an officer who asked us for our COPR documents and passport. She then asked us if we were planning to settle in Canada. We replied that we were just here to complete the landing formalities since our Canadian visa expires in a couple of days and then were going to go back to the US to finish our projects and my wife?s MBA. She was not happy at this and asked when we were going to wrap up our work in the US. I truthfully replied that we will be done by December 2006. She did not like this answer and said that we cannot apply for the OHIP before we actually come to Canada permanently but can apply for the SIN card. She then looked at our pictures on the form and said that they were the wrong size. Luckily we had taken some additional pictures with us and on showing them to her, she approved of the size of the pictures. She wrote the address of my friend on the COPR, where our PRs should be delivered and filled up a new PR form with the new pictures we had given her. She also told that we can come back in to Canada by non-commercial vehicle with copy of the COPR which she had attached to our Passport. It was a very tense but not a bad experience since she did not ask us any more questions.

Once this was complete, we were asked to go to the Customs officer and show our goods to follow list. I had typed all the lists on their forms and the lady was very happy with how neat and detailed the lists were. We had also put in serial numbers of our laptops and most of the appliances that we owned. She stamped and signed both the copies and returned one to us. When she was doing this, I asked her where we should submit the form declaring we were carrying over CN$10,000. She was thrilled that we even knew the form existed and had filled it out and she joked that usually when they ask about this form, the people respond with a question-mark on their faces!! She then took this form, stamped and signed a copy for us and we were done. It was only 4.50 PM and the whole process had taken only 20 minutes!

After that, we went to the Currency Exchange counter outside the office to exchange some money. We then drove around the falls for a few minutes, had dinner and then drove to Toronto where we stayed for a couple of days.

On Monday we went to SIN card application office. The process was OK and since we had already filled the form and had all the documents ready it only took about 15 minutes to stand in the queue and 15 minutes to complete the application process for me and my wife.

On our way back, there was no one at the entrance to Rainbow Bridge on the Canadian side and we just drove to the US side. The officer there asked us for our passports and I-94s. We were both on H1-B visa which had been converted in the US and we had not got a stamp on our passport. We have F1 and F2 visa stamp on the passport. The officer asked us for our H1-B approval notices, looked those over and let us in.

Thus concluded our landing process. All this process would not have gone smoothly without the advice on the forums on this website. We sincerely thank all who have contributed their experiences and also to the Moderators for their valuable advice on these forums.

I am glad to share my landing experience to this forum. The entire immigration process went very smoothly for me. Here is what it happened.

1) I was requested to visit the general immigration counter where the officer verified my visa and made an entry into the system and my Passport.

2) I was then requested to meet an officer in the next entrance. There the officer guided me to a separate Immigration Visa processing cell.

3) When I entered this separate service cell the officer verified my details in the COPR and asked a couple of questions related to COPR. He asked if I have a latest photograph. I gave one to the officer. My photo met the specifications of the Officer and he pasted the same on my COPR. He asked for proof of Funds and an Address in Toronto to which the PR Card should be despatched.I showed him a Bankers draft for proof of funds. Finally I was asked to sign the COPR. He attached the duplicate COPR copy to my passport and then explained the rules of Permanent Residency. Finally he wished me good luck and returned my passport.

4) Once I came out of this special service cell I could see another immigration officer Greeting me " Welcome to Canada " and then he gave me a package of Documents and references a new comer would need in Canada. He was very cordial and helpful.

5) I collected my Baggage and entered customs Verification. The officer enquired the details about what I carried with me to Canada and Proof of Funds. He filled out a form for me with the details of Funds I carried(such as Banker´s Cheque and the cash). He asked me to sign the Form.He stamped customs clearance seal in my Passport then wished me Good Luck in Canada. In overall it took less then 40 minutes to complete the entire process.
