I recently underwent a lung transplant at Toronto General Hospital.

As you can imagine, this entails numerous appointments before and after the event. The operation was very successful I might add, but the experience was tough physically and financially. We are both pensioners with low income and the cost of going to and from Toronto on a daily basis takes it´s toll.

One afternoon we parked in front of the hospital and had an appointment with a very long-winded doctor who kept us waiting a long time. So we went over our parking time. Our car was towed and we were desperate with no money to get it back. How were we to get home?

We called our son in Woodstock, but he would have had to drive from there. A young man saw our predicament and asked if he could help.

He took our postdated cheque and paid the fine so we could get our car and go home. This amazing young man then refused to cash the cheque, sending it back with a note that said he felt he had been at the right place at the right time to help us.

I can´t tell you how grateful we were. The young man´s name is Casey from Dearborn Michigan. There are always good people in this wonderful world and that never ceases to amaze me.

On October 18, 2005, I was travelling on the 401 with my adult niece. We were headed to Toronto from Kingston as we both had business in Toronto the next day.

We stopped at a truck stop just east of Bowmanville at about 10pm and when we returned to the car, we noticed it was leaking fluid from the rad. We decided to try to make it to Bomanville and try to find someone open who could check it out for us.

We filled the rad, but only made it a short distance before the temperature started to rise, so we pulled off at the next exit into a dark industrial area. The only open-looking place [was called Detox Environmental.]

Trevor let us use their phone, but we were unable to summon help from anyone we knew. We were really stuck. The night crew couldn?t figure out the problem, but Trevor offered to drive us into Toronto when he was done at 11 pm.

We couldn?t believe his generosity. Trevor followed us into Bowmanville where we left the car at Canadian Tire with a note and he drove us to our hotel in downtown Toronto.

Neither of us will ever forget the help of Trevor and the night crew at Detox Environmental. He wouldn´t accept money for gas and had to back track nearly to Peterborough to get home! Thanks guys! You are awesome!
