Subject: URGENT: Got PPR but passport is expiring
  Guys,

I got the PPR on 04/12/06. I have applied in Nov. 2004 from New York.
But in letter they have mentioned that passport should be valid for one year whereas one of my daughter´s passport will expire in 7 months. I believe I need to renew her passport but her passport number will change.

So I need to inform the new passport information of hers to consulate. But I don´t know the procedure for this. Did anyone face the same problem. Could you guys please suggest me how to proceed in this type of issue.

I will really appreciate your help.

My Timeline

Applied Nov. 2004 (New York)
AOR March 2005
IELTS Request July 2005
IELTS Submit September 2005
Case Transfer to NY Jan 2006
IA/MEDS (Interview Waived) Feb 2006
MEDS Submit Feb 2006
PPR APR 2006

Thanks

Hiya KBS

Since you got the visa on your passports the epiry date is not important just get into the Country before it expires forget the rest...

Good luck

I have received the passport request and need to send the passport for stamping. The requirement for the same is valid passport for atleast one year.

KBS,

Just go to the nearest consulate(of your country)or the passport office (if you are within your own country) and apply for the renewal of your old one(giving the copy of the canadian consulate letter) - they could do it within the same day. Pl. take proper renewal fee, 4 copies of picture and the form which you will get it there. It is so easy. Don´t be worried about this. For renewal - the pp number would be the same. Only they will stamp on it.

But if you need a new one - PP number would be a new - in that case, the consulate/passport office will staples both the PP together and the bearer usually carry the both always.

Then you could send everything according to the requirements.

Good Luck !

Hi KBS,

You do not need to renew the passport of your daughter.

The validity of the PR visa is either
A) One year from the day you got your medical done i.e. Feb 2007, OR
B) The day the passport expires

whichever date comes earlier. So the PR visa of your whole family will expire the day your daughter´s passport expires. 7 months is a sufficient time for you to land in Canada as a PR.

I recommend that you go to the Canadaian consuate in NYC in person (IF POSSIBLE) on a Thursday(as the visa is issued only on Thursday) to get the passport stamped. You can explain your situation to the official in the Canadian embassy. If you dont have a problem in getting a visa that is valid for 7 months they should not have a problem in issuing your visa.

This will save you the hassle of getting a new passport for your doughter right now.
