Subject: Crossing the border-overstay !
  Hi everyone,

due to the complications with my husband´s case (to move to Canada), I am now and have been with him in the US since October, and plan to go to Canada for two days in April. Since I will have overstayed in US as a Canadian, and will be crossing the border by land (bus), do I run a risk of being found out of my overstay upon my return to US? What do I say to Canadians at customs, and what do I say to Americans when I return to US? When I crossed the border last time, I just showed them my citizenship card, but I don´t know if they wrote anything down, or if they share information with Canadians?

A,

We have a similar problem A, and what´s best I suppose is that you answer every question honestly, if they ask anything.
I have it on authority, that what customs does/says does not stop the CIC process or hinder it. Customs people have always seemed to me when i cross the border to visit, a little high handed. I know with the world as it is, they should be skeptical, but i think sometimes they override their authority and good sense about people.

If asked, answer that you are in process, and that you are going to visit your sponored husband and give them a reasonable time that you will be visiting, like 2 weeks. This happened to us. They´ll decide how honest you are themselves. They may give you a form that states you must return on a specific date, and i would honour that request. What you don´t want is an ´order to return´ and disrgard it. That would create problems for your immigration process.

It´s a waiting game here, and loved ones are the ones who suffer the most.

I wish you good luck and hope that all goes well for you.

Thanks for your response...but, the most important question I guess is do Canadians and Americans share information regarding customs? Or even more important one - when I entered US in October, did the people at US customs write anything down, like the date when I entered? I know I will tell them the truth about visiting my husband for about 2 weeks, but what if they ask me when was the last time I was in US and for how long?
