Subject: Exporting a Vehicle: FYI (New Info)

For those who are landing by car (with outstanding car loan):

Based on the website of US Customs, if the car has an outstanding loan, one has to present a letter from the bank allowing the export and a notarized copy of the title. However, after faxing those documents, the US Customs officer told me that they also need the Screen Print (?) from your DMV. Accdg. to them that is the ONLY acceptable document in lieu of the original title. I just thought I would post this for those preparing the documents for their exportation.

To be sure please contact your respective US Customs:

Joe05,

Is faxing in advance a necessary step 3 days prior to cross the land from USA to Canada? My car is 4 years old and the title is in my hand (i.e. the loan is already paid).

hi Sammy,

yes, you still need to fax the title and the completed export worksheet (some ports only) at least 3 days prior to your landing for them to start the processing of your paper.

Thanx bro! In the past I never heard ayone mentioned such things (faxing). How they were thru? Any idea?

Three more questions ... who requires the ´recall clearance´? US port or the Canadian port? Are you talking abt the ´worksheet´ which is in doc format on US POrt´s web site OR the census´s worksheet in pdf format? (Sorry, if I´m confusing you)

Do i need to fax anything to Canadian port authority then anything?

Hi Sammy,

I am not sure if the Export Worksheet is standard on every Port office. The export Worksheet I have was faxed to me by the US Customs Officer I talked to. I suggest you call the US Customs where you will need to exit. I posted a link above (see 1st post)to see the contact numbers of the US Ports.

The 72-hour deadline is a requirement of US Customs. You can find this at www.riv.ca.

The Canadian port is the one that requires the Recall Clearance Certificate but you don´t need to fax it ahead of time.

No need to fax anything to Canadian port.
