Subject: american visiting toronto via land (niagra falls)
  i live in new york...
my last visit to the niagra falls (canada side)was 2 years ago.

i had only brought my drivers license.
i drove through the border easily.. the americans didnt ask any questions.. the canadians asked to see my drivers license and that was that...

no passport!

i heard that starting january, 2006, they ask to see passports and even stamp them entering canada and when entering the u.s.

keep in mind this visit would be by car.. NOT plane!

any help appreciated!

As far as I know, that ruling starts on 2008.

Also take a look to the Canadian consulate in Buffalo, NY. I´ve seen the information there but when I checked their web site seemed to be down.
