Subject: expiring passport
My passport is expiring in Aug 2006, I will prob apply for the immigration by the end of March. When I change my passport in August, can I easily inform the immigration officials about my new passport?

In your experience, is immigration less encouraged at certain places than the others or it just doesn´t matter for where you apply..

thanks in advance for your responses. Basanta

1) Yes, send them a copy of your new passport no problems.
2) You have to apply where you live OR where you´ve been admitted legally for 12 months. Suggest you consult the CIC processing times on their website to see which is currently faster. Obviously you can´t just pick any place or everyone would go for the shortest time!

I am not sure whether they need the copy of the new passport if you renew after your application.

I applied last year, and my passport is goanna expire in two months. Frankly, I did not see a rule saying that renewed passport copies should be sent to the embassy. I assumed that if my application is approved then I will simply send my new passport for stamp.

Is anybody aware of any rule on this issue?

There probably isn´t a written rule but what if they conduct security checks with your old passport number, they´re gonna be pissed to find you might´ve been travelling under a new passport.

My passport expired during the process and my lawyer ask me to renew it and sent a copy of the new one.
In the other hand, I don´t have any status in USA (from where we applied), the cic was aware of that and they granted me the PR. BUT my husband was the principal applicant and he is USA citizen. I don´t know if this change certain things.

Good luck.
