Subject: Documents with Application - Query
  Dear All

I really need your help on couple of queries, please.

I am submitting my application with all relevant docs to Buffalo, NY. Now their Checklist has a list of docs and my queries are pertaining to the same:

1. Education Docs: They ask for Original transcripts in University sealed envelopes!!!! - Has anyone sent originals? I mean, we work out of home country, and anytime may be required by US INS to show our originals or say we change employers or say for H1B renewal, we need these docs. Why in the first place are they asking for originals?? I can provide US notarized docs though! So will this be a problem?

2. Work Experience: I have reference letters from all my earlier companies. But they are looking for items like Business cards/responsibilities listed in reference letter and so on. This is like a decade old story...How do I go and pull business cards :) The reference letters I have talk about my title, time period I worked for, conduct et al on the relevant letter head. Wouldn´t this suffice?

3. Police Certificates: I always thought this comes with Medicals. Am I supposed to submit one with Application?? And also, since I live in US, can I get a Certificate from my country´s Embassy?? If I do not have one now, can i attach a letter that says I didnt expect it to go with application and hence will send it as soon as I receive one??

4. How many photos are required per family member???

I would really appreciate someone answering to these, pls.

Regards
Rads

Education - write to your university/college and ask them to send copies of the transcripts. If the CIC wanted notarised copies, they would´ve asked for that.

Reference letters/business cards - try your hardest to get exactly what they ask for. Any gaps, write a letter explaining why you can´t get the info (e.g. company´s gone into liquidation, only employer has died or something).

Police certs - again, if it asks for them now, SEND IT! The ones with medicals are the updated ones, but they need to check at the beginning you´re not inadmissible due to a crime. Google how you get a cert. from your country, it depends where you´re from.

Photos - for God´s sake is it not written in the covering notes? Can you not read or use Google? Follow CIC´s rules to the T, don´t just vaguely try and expect them not to ask for more documents if necessary, make your package as comprehensible as possible at the beginning! After all, you ARE basically asking for permanent admission into another country so they have to check you out fully.

To add to the post above this, for your certificates, you don´t need to send the originals, you can use notorised copies but for transcripts you need to send originals, you can ask your school to give you original copies and add them to your document before you mail them, it is best to have it together with your document. The transcripts will speak for the notorised copies of your certificate. For my case the school did not want to give me the transcript so what they did was that i gathered all my documents and then they added the transcript and one official went with me to do the mailing, to ensure that i don´t take the transcript out of it. You can do same but make sure the transcript and all required documents are together or else it would be returned to you and that would delay your process.

I just got my IA and waiting for PPR, somebody explained to me this is taking quite longer than normal due to background/security check because my documents do not quite follow the Immigration office´s instructions when I submitted them.

for example education - university sealed envelope vs notarized copies- they will check every bit of data on the notarized copies wherein they will only check basic info (like name, degree) with the school in your university sealed transcripts.

Addresses on letterheads, phone numbers, business cards on your work papers, the more complete the contact infos are, the faster they can retrieve info on you and your income tax records connecting you with the company.

Same goes with the Police certificates, if you can provide all certificates on all the countries youve been, the more time you save. they will just ask for the latest on the current country youre in when they ask you for meds near the end of the application.

Bottomline is, the more complete your papers are, the lesser time it takes for your application to follow the standard time frames and higher chance of interview waiver. Also I´ve read in this forum that errors and nuiances obtaining your background info really pis$es off the Immigration officer to the point that they refuse you or also make you suffer (as they did evaulating your incomplete papers) by waiting or bullying you on your interview. I´ve read that somebody here just mispelled the Univerisity of Punjab to Panjab then he got well... just ask him
