Subject: Landing questions: money
We will be landing in Toronto from Europe and after completing the landing formalities intend to return back to Europe. I saw that I will need to take Can $12,659 for 2 persons. My questions are as follows:
1. What is the best way to take the money, cash? travellers check? are there any other means?
2. Will it be fine if I take the equivalent money in Euros?
3. Can i take the money back with me when I return to Europe or do I have to deposit in Canada?
4. The regulation says that I need to declare if I am carrying more than CDN $10,000. Do I still need to declare if I take half the amount ($6330) and my wife the other half?

Thanks in advance

Somesh

Hiya somesh
1. The best way ( for me ) to transfer money is opening a bank account using HSBC bank in Canada ( you can open a bank account from abroad in HSBC) but first open a bank account in the country you live in and put all your money there in Canadian Dollars later you can transfer that money using Internet banking ( which is available in HSBC) that way a. you will not spend any penny to transfer money becasue transfering money through internet banking is free b. later after landing in
money and going bank to Europe you can transfer that money from canada to the country you live...
2.Better transfer money in canadian Dollars (Euro will be fine too)
3. If you take my advice as I have explained in 1 above yes you can transfer that money back
4. You wife is your spouse you are the main applicant so you are responsible to show proof that you have transferred that amount into Canada,
Ps. While transferring money some countries have their own rules an regulations for example in some countries you can not transfer more than 10.000 dollars on a single day so you might have to transfer money on two separate days,,,check that with HSBC bank in your country.
Hope this inf. is helpful good luck ....

Kasha,

I believe I have seen in the other postings that HSBC will not allow one to open an account for Canada from outside Canada. Can you please elaborate?

This is the offical site of HSBC bank http://www.hsbc.ca/hsbc
and please read the information there, i am not saying it they say in their web page that they can open a bank account from abroad... Please do not believe in what others say...

You can even send an e mail to them to confirm...
