Subject: Criminal Record Checks? |
I am an American applying for Permanent Residence. I know I need to send my fingerprints in to the FBI for a background check.
Do I also need to send fingerprints to each individual state I have ever lived in for separate background checks?

usually yes (in reply to: Criminal Record Checks?) Not all states provide that, but most do.
you need to have lived in these states for 6 months or more after the age of 18. So if you moved around as a minor, don´t bother. :)
Good luck

(in reply to: Criminal Record Checks?) No, all states contribute to the national database, so one FBI fingerprint check should suffice, unless CIC asks you for something else.
When I applied, they said to wait on the fingerprints till CIC told you to do them--probably because the prints are good for six months and it may take CIC a year to get to working on your file.
Good luck.
