FYI.
I sent a fax to Buffalo to inquire about my case status (My case: all documents sent Feb.2 2005).
I got an mail back and it is written: Background check are on-going in Ottawa. Thanks for your understanding.

Did you ever get an email from CIC that said: we have requested background information from other goverment offices..?

Yes. What happened was that I sent an e-mail, and a fax the same time to Buffalo. And I got an e-mail back in a couple days. And now I got the answer in regular mail for my fax inquiry.
In the answer, they said that. That is different from standard e-mail answer.
