| Subject: How to obtain CAIPS notes |

Could someone write how to obtain CAIPS notes, please. I am in Canada and I think I have read it is possible to do it without any agency/lawyer.
Please write how long does it take to get them and where to get the proper forms.
Will CAIPS notes contain information at the time of requesting them or at the time of shipping them back? I am awaiting IA, applied as SW through Buffalo, so if i order CAIPS today and get IA next week (for example) what will CAIPS show: IA done or not?

If you are living in Canada you can order your own CAIPS notes for free under the Privacy Act.
1) Go the site
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563B.pdf
fill in the firm with the required details i.e.:
a) Visa post (e.g. Buffalo, NY etc.)
b) File number (e.g. BXXXX..)
c) Date of Birth
d) Your Postal address (In Canada address only)
2) Check on the box for the CAIPS notes request in the form.
3)Provide a photocopy of your valid permit/visa in Canada (Person requesting).
4) Write a cover letter requesting the notes (Person who requests writes that).
Post all the papers together to :
Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator

If you are waiting for IA then I recommend that you do NOT apply for the CAIPS notes right now.

Thanks a lot. I am afraid I might not get IA before the expiry date of my study permit (April 2006). I have AOR March 2005. That is why I wanted to order CAIPS, at least to see BFD.
Let me know what do you think?
Am I allowed to stay in Canada solely on the basis that my PR application is being processed EVEN if my study permit expires?Any help with extension?I will not be graduating so no 1-yr-work permit :(

Unfortunately, you cannot do that. If anybody tries that they will have probs with the application and might lead to cancellation, if they find out.

What do I tick in that form: "privacy act (no fees) or something else?
Do I need to put "receive copy of the records" as well, or, CAIPS notes are different from these records?

Hi,
I would think that the CAIPS system in Ottawa would contain the details of your application.
Do you have a file number relating to your application? It usually starts with a B, E, V or an S. That would certainly make it easier to obtain your CAIPS Notes.
Also, how long ago was your application refused? I believe that applications will only stay in the CAIPS system for so long.
