Sharon?s failure to wake up from a coma nine days after suffering a massive stroke does not bode well for his recovery, some doctors said Friday. With extensive brain damage looking likely, all have begun to look ahead to life without Sharon.

I pronounce my name ´Cherin´ and the last time I checked, I am still a girl. :) Yes, the name has some international baggage. My mother never imagined a simple little Irish name could create such drama in my life.

As for Ariel Sharon, I suspect he is in serious health trouble. Having some exposure to the complications of brain injury such as his, I highly doubt he will ever be capable of returning to political life, nor will he have much quality of life on a personal level.

My quiet lingering question (a personal, ethical one) is if he would have been anyone other than Ariel Sharon, would the doctors have gone to such drastic measures to keep him alive, and was that decision in A.S.´s best interest.

A medical test showed activity in both of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon´s brain lobes and his condition remains critical but stable, hospital officials said Saturday. The update, issued after the end of the Jewish Sabbath, was the first word on the 77-year-old Israeli leader from the Hadassah Hospital in more than 24 hours. Sharon suffered a massive stroke on Jan. 4.

trust me... activity in the brain does not guarantee quality of life. For his sake, and the sake of his family- I hope he can recover enough to enjoy his last days.

I realize, he is not the most popular man on the planet but everyone deserves the chance to live and die with dignity.
