Subject: PR and Student loan
  hi,

i recently got the ppr request and soon hopefully i will get my permanent resident card. I´ thinking geting back to university and planning to go for an mba.

my questions are:

1- as a new resident, can i get a tudent loan from the canadian governement?
2- what r the conditions to get this loan? and is there a ceiling?
3- can i get this loan and use it in a university outisde canada? or the govermenet just pay a loan if i wana only study in canadian universities?

whatever details you have will be great or contacts or websites to refer to.

thanks a lot.

1. nope you cannot get a student loan from the government.
2. No loan no conditions. Yes there is a ceiling in my house.
3. canadian government is not that much idiot to give a loan for an immigrant to study abroad.. who will guaranty that you will not go away ??
Good luck

1, yes. depend on how long you have lived in that province.
2, check out university financial aid department
3. yes or no, generally you will get student loan pretty easy if you have admission from Canadian public colleges and universities

please check out HRSDC website

TA you can surely get a student loan but again depends on your province. If you have lived in Ontario and been a resident for more than 1 year AND not been a student for the last year you are eligible for OSAP once you have your PR.

MBA sounds great ... I am planning on doing the same thats why I had some information for you. All I need is 1 more year of work ex and have to take my GMAT!

best of luck.

Also, all major MBA programs in Canada have loan programs with major banks for students who are admitted. All you need to be is a resident.
