Subject: Question on Work Experience
I am in the process of collating my documents for PR Application to CIC. I´m currently working as a chemical engineer-environmental in a power plant for 5 years. But before this, I had also worked in related occupations for about 15 months, however, in 3 different companies. My question is, would it be fine if I would include only my 5-year current employment to claim points for "Work Experience" since I have difficulty obtaining reference letters and copies of employment contracts from my previous employers? However, in Schedule 1 Background/Declaration, Item 11 asked for Personal History where all jobs held/period of employment should be included. Should I indicate the previous jobs I have held but without the corresponding employment documents since I will not be able to obtain them? I will greatly appreciate your replies. Thanks

Get as much as you can from your previous employers. If your employers cannot give you a letter of recommendation, as some of mine could not, have them issue a letter stating the period you worked for them. In a couple of cases I sent payment proof to show I had worked at the company as well as a simple draft letter. They returned the letter on their letterhead simply stating the period I had worked for them.

List all jobs you have held in your background declaration. What else are you going to put for that period? Better to be working than doing nothing and I don´t know if lying on a background application is a good idea. If you cannot get a letter from a pervious employer, include a letter with your application explaining why.
