Your medical test will include the following:

1. Blood test (I guess they test for HIV and other diseases)
2. X-Ray
3. Eye test
4. General examination
5. Urine test

hi (in reply to: Tuberculosis question)
i dont think it will take 3 months to get the result for TB. i think it is called acid fast staining . i also have heard about new tests where you can confirm using latest tests like PCR .Google the word Diagnosis of TB , you will get plenty of information

Hi Noodles,

I got TB skin test done in 2001 before I came to US as it was a requirement of the Univ. The skin test was positive but the doctor told me that there is nothing to worry about as a lot of people in India test positive. Just to make sure I got the chest X-ray done and it was fine.

I got my medical done for Canada immigration in March 2005 and have not received any instructions from then to provide additional tests.

You can request the DMP to check the X-ray and ask him if a sputum test may be required in your case.

Most South Asians test positive for the skin test because of the BCG vaccinations they recieved during childhood.

The chest X-ray will rule out active TB. Noodles in your case: "Applicants identified as having inactive TB or a past history of TB are placed under medical surveillance as a condition of entry. Such immigrants or visitors are then required to report, within 30 days of entry, to a public health authority in the province/territory (P/T) of destination."

Getting a sputum test before the medicals may help in saving time. Your DMP could then send the results with your report. Before I do anything I would call up the DMP and explain the situation. Also try and get your old x-rays, medical evaluation etc. All these documents would help in your case.

By the way Noodles, just in case, if you are asked to do a skin test again, please do let them (DMP) know that you have had a positive skin test in the past, the second time around the reaction could be stronger.

"What if" ... I were tested positive in TB and now under USA health dept observation?? .. How they going to look at the matter? Know, US Health Dept also provide a "health card" showing the patient is under "observation" and under "medication".

Any thoughts and experience to share????

Sammy, Iam sorry I didnt quite understand your question. But just to let you know the chest X-ray can reveal healed/prior TB. Doing a sputum test then rules out active TB.

D´Oh I get it :), you meant if you were already under a TB surveillance in the US, what can Canada do right? Will they look upon it favorably?

If you are still undergoing treatment, "under medication" they wont let you in : "Applicants identified as having active TB abroad are denied entry to Canada until they have completed a satisfactory course of treatment and are reassessed"- according to the website I posted earlier.

Now can you apply your US surveillance to Canada after you are healed. I dont know. Experts in the forum please help?

mmm_doughnuts,

Sorry to make that complicated. I was asking the question for a friend.

His medication story is ... After the skin test was found positive, local health dept in the USA had had his chest x-ray. The x-ray revealed in good condition (i.e., not active TB..I remember they called it kinda "sleeping-TB"). But they gave him to take some medicine for some period. So far I know, if it were really bad, they wudn´t let him start school (Int´l student), rather quarintine. Am i right?

Now in this case, does he have chance to be rejected?
Besides, during medical check up with DMP, when shud he inform them abt his history OR he doesn´t need to say anything??

Any thoughts?
