Subject: extending temporary visitor status
On july 10th this year i came to canada and got 6 month temporary visitor status. On 9th jan next year it ends. So about 3 weeks ago I applied for extension of this status for another 6 months. I am applying because I am living with my fiance, and we want to stay together here until he saves up enough money working for us to get married next summer. That is the reason that i put on my form.

Does anyone know how much chance there is of me getting this?

depends... if you put you are undergoing an inland sponsorship i´m sure they would approve you because they did for me. just because you´re saving up to get married, isn´t a good reason to let you stay. you could wait it out in your home country and work to save up, then come over.. just my opinion. why didn´t you ask before you mailed it off?

I´m not undergoing an inland sponsorship yet, but I shall be in summer.I don´t understand why that´s not a good reason - why would they seperate two people in love for 6 months? That´s very unsensitive. I didn´t ask before I mailed it because I didn´t see any reason why they would say no...it´s just an extension of what I already have.. I could just as easily go out of the country for a day then come back... well that would be harder actually. I did put that I am supported by his parents - his dad on an extremely high pay and his mum in part time work, so i am supported. I don´t understand why they would reject it.

Dear Mary,
you are most definitely exagerrating the meaning of "human factor" and its meaning for officers and/or bureaucrats:(

Lol, i can understand why you wrote that twice :) But if there is no meaning of sensitivity in the government then why do they allow people that are married to live together in canada if their spouse was once a citizen of a different country, and why would they say that those that are going through the spousal sponsorship now do not have to get a temporary visitor visa while it is being processed, but can just stay?

Have you been in my situation and sent off the same forms and had it rejected? Or are you working for the government? I just want to know so that I can understand where you are coming from :)

even if one is undergoing spousal sponsorship doesn´t mean that you get to stay without extending your stay. you still have to keep a valid status. That´s what i´m doing. That´s what i was told from the CIC call centre. The new policy states that if you are out of status you can still apply, tho i´m sure you´ll be waiting twice as long as they will investigate as to why you let your status run out.

hopefully for your sake they approve it, but they could care less about ´separating people in love´ they want proof of it, extensive proof, just being married isn´t enough anymore. too many people marry for the sake of getting status in another country. theyd on´t take it lightly, hence the sponsorships take at least 8 months and that´s if nothing comes up and they don´t ask for any additional documents.

also, if you read the inland sponsorship guides (new and old one) it states that you are required to send off for extensions to have your stay legal. the new policy were for people here that let it run out, that they could still apply. tho the criteria will be much more objective and subjective to the officer reviewing the case. if you are denied they will issue a deportation order for 30-60 days from the date on the letter that you have to leave.

Thankyou for that information :) But we´re not married yet and we haven´t applied for spousal sponsorship yet, i´ve been here 6 months and i just want to extend my stay for another 6 months until we get married. We would get married now but i want my family there and they can´t afford to come here. Thankyou for the information that you gave me though, it shall be useful when the time comes.
