Subject: Work experience question for everyone

Hi everyone,

I applied for my PR from Ontario in Feb 2005. Got my AOR in Mar 2005, and they requested for my IELTS results in Aug 2005. At the time I was using my part-time job from my Canadian university as my minimum work experience. I worked this job for almost 5 years from 2000 to 2004, and these hours added up to 1.6 years. Since I applied, I have gained additional work experience in my field that I know for sure falls under a proper NOC. I am currently working with a 2-year post-graduate work permit; Jan 2005 to present...its is valid up to Feb 2007.

By the time I get my IA, I will definitely have another additional year of work experience. The question I have is that, is there any chance they might consider my application if my first university job experience doesn´t fall into a proper NOC code? I´m pretty sure it falls into an accepted code, and my employer at the university wrote that in my contract letter. My current employer is also willing to give me a permanent job offer once I get my PR visa, which I believe will give me ´arranged employment´ points. Although, I am still waiting to update this information with CIC Buffalo. Any opinions are welcome. Thank you.

Don´t know the answer to your q., sorry, but was wondering where you are originally from given that you took the IELTS but your English is great.

Hi there,
No worries. I´m originally from Bangladesh, but I´m fluent in English due to the fact that my father is a diplomat and I´ve always attended English schools. CIC seem to be requesting IELTS results from everyone these days, and I found it to be a waste of my time and money. I ended up with a 8.5. I do see though why CIC is making it mandatory. It´s a good way to weed out all the immigrants that can´t speak English, or those whose IELTS score decides their final points for immigration. This is of course rather unfortunate, but there is nothing we can do about it. Thanks for asking.

i´m not sure that will count since you did it WHILE you were pursuing the degree (assuming it was undergrad). the only way that RA and TA type academic positions count is if you were employed POST GRAD and it was paid. this is what i was told by an attorney.
